What one defines as “classic” Hazzanut is forever debatable. I identify this style by the use of ancient modes and motifs that survived for centuries. Long runs and twists. The frailich k’vetch. Powerful sustained notes. Bending notes and phrases from major to minor and back again. These are but a few indicators of the more classic composition that came to its penultimate expression during the “Golden Age of the Cantor” in the early to mid 20th century as exemplified by artists like Richard Tucker and Jan Pierce. Please enjoy a few of these more classic compositions.
